Opened in 1955. (9.2 acres bought in 1954 for $36,000). Additions in 1971, 1993, 1995, 1996. Construction cost: $504,000. Frame stucco, 41,320 sq. ft., 10 buildings, 28 classrooms. Named after nearby street. Renamed after retiring Superintendent Edward J. Richardson in 1993. Served Ellinwood area of southwest Torrance.
Middle school 1972-86. Closed 1986 due to declining enrollment. Adult Education Center: 1986-93. Reopened, September, 1993, due to increasing enrollment (sixth grade only, first year). Peak enrollment: 816 in 1963. Current: 581. Nickname: Rattlesnakes.
