CLASS TITLE: MANAGER - INFORMATION SYSTEM
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director-Information Technologies, plan, organize, coordinate, supervise and implement information system applications; supervise employees providing assistance to District-wide users in identifying requirements and resolving computer-related needs and problems; oversee the designing, planning, and implementation of classified staff information system training; train, supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Plan, organize, coordinate and oversee day-to-day maintenance information system functions encompassing VAX, information system servers, and personal workstations. E
Supervise all office operations during the absence of the Director-Information Technologies. E
Consult with District personnel, administrators and outside contractors to coordinate, prioritize and schedule information systems projects. E
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work and participate in the selection of new personnel as assigned; recommend and participate in disciplinary action as needed. E
Develop and prepare work schedules; review information system reports to determine future upgrades; prioritize and coordinate duties and assignments to assure effective workflow and facilitate operations. E
Follow-up on orders with District personnel to assure timely and proper payment for supplies and services purchased. E
Communicate with vendors, contractors, and technical experts regarding information system operations and activities, hardware, software specifications, scheduling and District policies and procedures. E
Assist in the coordination of large projects, such as systems migration and major technology upgrades. E
Read and coordinate interpretation and application of technological requirements concerning data systems security. E
Prepare and maintain records, files, logs and reports related to personnel, inventory, supplies, work requests, work performed and safety issues. E
Monitor and evaluate system access for security in conjunction with District firewall protocols; investigate vandalism caused by unauthorized access as necessary. E
Assist in determining needed equipment, materials and supplies for the District information system operations; requisition a wide variety of necessary hardware/software and supplies, and equipment. E
Provide technical expertise and respond to complex questions or complaints regarding the usage of the District business system. E

Plan and coordinate the program changes, new programs and procedures impacting information systems production with assigned staff and District personnel. E

Modern management and supervision practices.
High volume production equipment including line printers, high speed laser printers, scanners and related software.

Proper operation of a storage computer and its peripherals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a technology-related field and four years related experience, including three years in a supervisory capacity.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Bending, pushing, moving, lifting heavy objects, dexterity of hands and finger to operate a computer keyboard, hearing and speaking to exchange information, seeing to observe and diagnose hardware/software problems, and bending at the waist to work on equipment.
