September 16, 2003

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by Dr. Klonecky at 5:30 p.m.

PRESENT

Personnel Commissioners:

Dr. Owen H. Griffith

Ms. Kris Koga, Personnel Analyst

PLACE AND DATE OF MEETING

Torrance Unified School District Board Room, 2336 Plaza del Amo, Torrance, September 2, 2003.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. McCalman.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 9/2/03

Dr. Griffith moved, seconded by Mrs. McCalman, that the minutes of the regular meeting of September 2, 2003 be approved with the date as corrected. Motion carried 3/0.

APPROVAL OF ELIGIBILITY LISTS

Mrs. McCalman moved, seconded by Dr. Griffith, that the eligibility lists for Educational Assistant-Special Education-ASSISTT and WIA Testing Specialist be approved. Motion carried 3/0.

APPROVAL OF PROPOSED REVISIONS TO CHAPTERS 3, 21, 22

Mrs. McCalman moved, seconded by Dr. Griffith, that the First Reading of proposed revisions to Rules and Regulations, Chapters 3, 21, and 22, be approved as submitted. Motion carried 3/0.

COMMISSIONER’S APPOINTMENT - CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE’S APPOINTEE

Mrs. McCalman’s appointment to the Commission is schedule to expire in December 2003. Rule 2.1.2.2 requires the classified employee organization that has the authority to nominate the classified employees’ appointee to the Commission submit to the Board the name of the appointee.

Dr. McCann distributed a memorandum dated September 11, 2003 with today’s agenda to provide appropriate notification to the relevant parties regarding Mrs. McCalman’s agreeing to be reappointed.

Mr. Tomas Montoya, School Employee’s International Union (SEIU), Local 99, spoke in support of the reappointment of Mrs. Geri McCalman. He praised Mrs. McCalman’s proven record of merit system experience throughout her years of dedication to the classified employees in Torrance.

Mrs. McCalman related her pleasure in serving all classified employees.

Commission staff praised Mrs. McCalman’s dedication and commitment.
