CLASS TITLE: CHILDREN'S CENTER CUSTODIAN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Children's Center Coordinator, perform a variety of custodial duties to maintain the classrooms, restrooms, office, kitchen and other Children's Center facilities in a clean, sanitary and orderly condition; serve meals and clean tables and eating areas.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Perform a variety of custodial duties at the Children's Center; clean and maintain classrooms, offices, kitchen and other facilities in a clean and orderly condition. E
Clean restrooms and drinking fountains; wash and sanitize counters, sinks, toilets and tables; refill soap and paper dispensers. E
Clean classrooms; wash tables, counters, woodwork and windows; empty, clean and re-line trash receptacles. E
Pick up breakfast, snacks and lunches and deliver to classrooms according to established schedules; serve children and clean eating areas after meals. E
Clean kitchen equipment and facilities; defrost the refrigerator; clean stoves and ovens. E
Maintain routine records related to inventory of cleaning supplies and materials; order and store items according to established procedures. E
Sort and launder towels, linens and other items. E
Monitor and observe playground activities as assigned; maintain appropriate student conduct according to approved procedures. E
Sweep, mop and vacuum floors; shampoo carpets as assigned. E
Assist Children's Center faculty, staff and students as needed; participate in special events and arrange furniture as needed. E
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Cleaning equipment, tools, materials and supplies used in custodial work.
Safety practices and work methods.
Requirements of maintaining school buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Sanitation practices related to handling and serving food.
Basic record-keeping techniques.
Health and safety regulations.
Proper lifting techniques.
ABILITY TO:
Maintain Children's Center facilities in a clean, orderly and secure manner.
Use common cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and efficient manner.
Clean classrooms, offices, restrooms, kitchen and other Children's Center facilities.
Serve breakfast, lunch and snacks to children and clean eating areas properly.
Assist Children's Center faculty, staff and students with special projects and activities.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Work cooperatively with others.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Relate to and work effectively with young children.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above and one year of general custodial experience.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license. Employees in this classification must maintain insurability at the District's standard rate during the term of employment.

Indoor and outdoor work environment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Bending, pushing, moving, lifting objects weighing up to 75 pounds, standing and walking for extended period, bending at the waist, pushing and pulling, twisting/turning, climbing ladders, seeing to assure proper and complete cleaning, and dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power cleaning equipment.
HAZARDS:
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and fumes; subject to working at heights on ladders.
