CLASS TITLE: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES NETWORK
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Director - Information Technologies, install, operate, maintain, and upgrade network hardware and software.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Install network hardware and software. E
Install basic Windows NT server operating systems. E
Install and configure computer workstations to connect to the District Network. E
Install/upgrade and configure communication applications including terminal emulators, e-mail client software, and Internet browsers. E
Trouble-shoot Local Area Networks. E
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. E
May assemble data communication cables and interfaces.
May work from schematics, diagrams, specifications, drawings, and sketches.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Technical understanding of network hardware and software products.
Techniques of network problem isolation.
Microcomputer operating systems.
Network protocols and concepts.
Oral and written communication skills.
ABILITY TO:
Install and configure network hardware including cabling.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Prepare clear, complete, and concise reports and records.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to two years of college course work in computer science (or related major) and/or three years of paid computer network support experience. Experience with the installation of servers and Local Area Network devices. Demonstrated experience with the installation and configuration of Novell, Apple, and Microsoft Windows networks.
