Grand Opening of Brand New Aquatic Center

Torrance, CA – On Saturday, March 3, 2018, TUSD families and the Torrance community are invited to the Grand Opening celebration of the first-ever, brand new, District Aquatic Center. This exciting $15 million project has been made possible by funds from Bond Measure U, which was passed by over 60% of Torrance voters in November 2014.

The state of the art facility includes a 60-meter Olympic size competition pool, a warm-up pool, elevated bleachers for 600 spectators, and separate lockers rooms for each of the four high schools, as well as a changing room for visiting teams. The District Aquatic Programs include both Water Polo and Swim and will now have a proper world-class competitive facility in which to practice and compete.

“This new Aquatic Center is going to be a South Bay jewel, which will serve our Torrance high school students for years to come,” comments excited former North High Head Coach, Phil Trujillo (retired in 2017). “The kids in our aquatic programs work so hard and are finally getting the facility they have deserved for years. It was a privilege to be a part of the design committee and I am thrilled to see our vision become a reality.”  Eric Trujillo, former North High student, design committee member, and Phil Trujillo’s son, designed the logo for the new facility. The “Shield Marquee” will be displayed at the entrance of the center. “We are proud Saxons and are looking forward to the Grand Opening celebration!”

The pool’s capabilities allow for two sports to be played simultaneously. Additionally, the facility will rely on solar panels to partially heat the pools. “For decades an Aquatic Center has been on the District’s wish list - a facility, which would match the skills and competitive aspirations of our swim and water polo students,” comments TUSD Superintendent, Dr. George Mannon. “And they have been eager to get in! Thank you to the community for their support of Measure U and to the dedication of our design and construction teams. We are so proud of what we have built together.”

Please join us at the Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, March 3, 2018 starting at 1 pm. The Aquatic Center address is 2320 Crenshaw Blvd (enter through the driveway located between Starbucks and the Honda Service Center). Please see the attached invite for more information.
