How can I hear about open recruitments at TUSD?

Job announcements are accessible in the following ways:

  1. Torrance Unified School District's web page at www.tusd.org under Current Job Openings
  2. Posted at all District school sites and departments, outside the Personnel Commission office, and the District Office lobby
  3. 24-hour Job Hotline recording at (310) 972-6344
  4. Employment Interest Card, which can be completed at the Personnel Commission office or submitted online.

What is an Employment Interest Card?

An Employment Interest Card/form is a pre-printed card/form that interested applicants may fill out requesting notice of future job vacancies in their area of interest.  The Employment Interest Cards can be completed at the Personnel Commission Office or online.  They are good for 6 months, so if you do not receive notice within that time period, please submit another if you are still interested in hearing about an upcoming recruitment for that classification.

How do I submit an employment application?

  1. Applications can be picked up at the Personnel Commission office at 2335 Plaza del Amo, Torrance, CA 90509 or download at www.tusd.org.
  2. Applications are only accepted for jobs that are open for recruitment.
  3. All completed application materials must be received by the Personnel Commission Office either in person or by mail by the deadline. Faxed or emailed applications will NOT be accepted.
  4. Keep a copy of your application materials before submitting them and the job announcement to assist you in preparing for any test and/or interview that may be required.
If I want to apply for more than one job, do I have to turn in more than one application?

You must submit a separate job application for each job recruitment. You may apply for as many jobs as you wish. You may copy an application and submit the copy for another job if you wish, as long as original signatures and initials are included on the forms. In all cases, once the employment application is submitted to the Personnel Commission Office, it cannot be returned to you or be copied for you

How often can I apply for the same classification?

If it is open for recruitment, you may file an application before the deadline. However, you are ineligible to retest for the same classification within ninety (90) days of failing a part of the examination process.

How is the application reviewed/assessed?

The education and experience of the job description is established to assess whether or not an applicant has met the minimum qualifications for the position.  The Personnel Commission staff will review the information provided on the application and other prerequisite materials (i.e., typing certificate, transcripts) if needed, to determine if the applicant has met the minimum education and experience requirements.

Additional documents, such as resumes, certifications, or letters of reference may be attached to the application.  Do not, however, state “see resume” when asked for a description of job responsibilities and duties.  Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of the information you provide on the application.  Failure to include all information requested may result in the rejection of an application.
