| Torrance Unified School District Program Improvement Fact Page |
In January 2002 the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) was signed into law to improve educational opportunities for all children. This legislation supports Torrance Unified School District’s efforts to provide a strong standards-based educational program for all students
Although NCLB expired in 2008, California continues to wait for a reauthorization or a waiver from the US Secretary of Education. President Obama has authorized a waiver process and California secretary of Education, Tom Torlakson has indicated that California would apply for the waiver.
Torrance continues to make growth each year in the three achievement areas by which we are measured. Irrespective of this growth, Torrance has been identified as a program improvement district in the area of math for three numerically significant subgroups: Hispanic or Latino, Socioeconomically Disadvantaged, and Students with Disabilities.
