American Honda is partnering with the Torrance Unified School District because they recognize the dire needs of our District due to repeated budget cuts. American Honda is committed to help TUSD raise necessary funds needed to protect classroom teachers.
The budget situation to date: the past three years of reductions
$56 million in reductions
492 laid off employees (teachers, classified, administrators)

How SOS funds were used to help schools hire back teachers?
Last year the SOS campaign raised $325,000 and each school received a portion of the donations. Schools were able to use these dollars for much needed classroom intervention and enrichment teachers.
TUSD Facts:
TUSD receives 93% of its funding from the State
TUSD receives hundreds less per student than its neighboring districts (multiplied by 25,000 students)
TUSD gets dollars based on daily average attendance, not on total enrollment
TUSD’s Academic Performance Index (API) is in the top 12% of all school districts in California
